This is a service providing respite to parents and carers supporting learning disabled adults living at home in the London Borough of Enfield. The service is currently free at the poiont of delivery being funded through the Enfield Carers’ Grant.
The service is provided every Saturday (excluding Easter, Christmas and New Year) 10:00am – 5:00pm. Unlike other Enfield Mencap services no transport to and from the service is provided.
Although based at the Opportunity Centre in Ponders End most weekends see activities taking place in the community often involving day trips to local places of interest
The service is technically provided for parents and carers but Enfield Mencap ensures that the care and facilities provided are no less than those that our service users would expect to benefit from Monday to Friday at any of our other projects. The emphasis however is on a much more relaxed and social environment in which friendships can be developed.
Of course there is learning underneath the fun but this less structured than during the week and skills are absorbed more than learnt.
